The Robert L. and Sara Marcy Cole Library was named September 10, 1997 in recognition of a gift from the estate of Robert L. Cole, third president of the institution (1985-1986). President Cole, who had thirty years of experience as a senior corporate executive in high-technology companies, was noted for cultivating a closer working relationship with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The Cole Library has a specialized collection of books, journals and electronic subscriptions in Computer Science, Engineering, and Business Management. The collection includes publications from business and professional groups such as the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Conference Board and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
